Some students at Hampshire College are hosting a conference on the animal liberation movement. If you remember, I had posted about a lecture by former ALF "terrorist" Peter Young. The same group that hosted him before, Hampshire Animal Liberation Advocacy is putting on this conference. He will be facilitating a workshop about guerrilla tactics for conducting investigations on animal testing facilities etc. It would be interesting. I may not be able to make it but if you can go, you should go. For more info see the website. Here is the description they give:
Smash the State Crush the Cage
November 9th-11th
A conference aiming to fortify and empower the animal liberation movement called Smash the State, Crush the Cage. The focus of the conference is on practical ways of ending animal testing on and outside college campuses. We believe that it's crucial for people who recognize the systemic injustices being committed against animals, human and non-human alike, to share skills and strategies in order to effectively combat this injustice.
Also see their disclaimer:
The student group HALA does not advocate ALF style tactics. This conference is not a place for such actions. We do not invite self-identified members of the ALF.
And their info on security at the conference, which seem to be good rules in general:
Security Standards
While the goal of a conference is to exchange ideas, we have to be realistic about the political climate in which we find ourselves. The Green Scare, the FBI's private war on those who seek to defend innocent animals and the ecological systems upon which all life depends, ensures that any such gathering as SMASH THE STATE, CRUSH THE CAGE will be subject to infiltration and surveillance. In order to make the conference a safer space, we ask that all attendees subscribe to the following security guildlines:
If you have broken the law, there is almost no reason to talk about it. Bragging will make you feel good in the moment, but it could land you in prison for years.
There is no reason to ask anyone else about times he or she may have broken the law.
Never talk about an illegal action over the phone, the internet, inside a building that could be bugged or near a group of other people. If you you don't want to be overheard, take the battery out of your cellphone.
Do not take or plan illegal actions during the period of the conference.
Do not attempt to buy drugs while on Hampshire campus.
Don’t talk to cops or feds EVER!
If someone is not observing good security culture, call him or her out on it.
Understand that there are infiltrators in our midst. Their presence requires that we be cautious, not that we in any way compromise our aims. They are here because what we do is effective.

That is the type of thing my ex-wife would attend. She cried in Lassie movies.
