This is the first post in what will be a continuing series detailing my current training regiment. Currently I am focusing on general conditioning, hand to hand combat and bladed weapons. I have just completed my first week of both Aikido and Fencing. Both are rigorous workouts and have showed me how out of shape I have been. At the end of the first week I can already see results. I am less sore after class and am working lots of tiny muscles that I didn't know existed. In Aikido, I have begun to learn how to put people into holds and disarm and pin an assailant armed with a knife. Fencing stresses foot work and the lower body. Outside of class, I have been walking/hiking almost every day due to a recent spot of warm weather. Last night, I climbed on top of some four story buildings and practiced surveillance and being a lookout. Along the same lines I have been climbing trees and even went on a bike ride tonight. The Aikido and Fencing classes will continue for two more weeks, not enough time to really even start to learn either, but it was free training.

what made you choose Aikido?
I place where I found these free classes also offers Kyodo (Japanese long-bow archery), Shoakan (sp?) Karate, and Tai Chi. I choose Aikido because it was the only intro level class that fit with my schedule. Additionally I wanted to balance out the very western Fencing with an eastern martial art.
