In reconnaissance operations, "locals" act, often unwittingly, as sources of information for the guerrilla. In urban contexts, I have found the most observant and omnipresent people are the homeless and/or the "criminal element"(sic). Unhoused people, simply put are out on the streets all the time, checking out the scene. I have found that giving a person on the street a cigarette and, as the Hawai'ians say, talking story creates the perfect context to gather intelligence. With some seemingly harmless questions, they happily tell you useful information that would be hard to learn by other means.
The "criminal element" is helpful as a source of information for many of the same reasons, but also have a pretty intimate knowledge of local law enforcement, organized crime, and the proverbial underworld of the city. For example, when I wanted to learn more about the white nationalist prison gangs and its members living in San Francisco, I talked to my buddy's buddy and got the skinny.

Solidarity with Bloggers from "Negotiation is Over"!
Recently, Camille Morino, blogger at Negotiation is Over! has been having legal problems related to the posting of a vivisector's personal information, culminating in a judge ordering her to erase the data from the website. The website is a friend of this blog and I proudly stand in solidarity with Morino and Negotiation is Over! and defend their ability to post information unfettered!

The Newest member of The Revolution Script Fan Club
For a change I received a lukewarm reception on a gun forum, far better than on ar-15.com, et. al. Over at The Liberal Gun Club Forum it appears that the blog has some fans on the slightly-less-shitty side of American politics. I am flattered at the semi-kind words and that my reputation preceded in this case, so welcome to the TRSFC, TLGBF!
